All of our shelves are handmade in our Devonshire workshop in England and we pride ourselves on our exquisite reclaimed wood.
From alcove shelves and floating shelves to open kitchen shelves and bathroom shelves, we have a wide variety in our range to fit your shelving needs.
At Shabby Bear Cottage, not only do we make everything by hand to your exact specifications, but we also use reclaimed sustainable timber. This beautiful wood creates the most fantastic characterful rustic shelves that’s impossible to replicate with cheaper materials.
As a small family run business, weve been making shelves for over 15 years, and we’ve seen how versatile they can be. They’ve been used as open kitchen shelving, floating bookcases, alcove shelves, toy storage and even breakfast coffee bars. Whatever your style, you’re in safe hands with us.
Installing our floating shelves is easy as 1-2-3, take a look at our handy guide here
Every wooden shelf is made by hand, by skilled local craftsmen.
Because we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.
A small family run business with lots of heart
Natural : Close to the soul of raw wood, delicately pale with subtle variations that highlight its natural beauty. This finish celebrates the essence of wood in its purest form, perfect for those who appreciate simplicity and organic charm.
Antique Oak : Luxuriously dark and rich, achieved with a meticulous application of natural wax that deepens over time. Its warm tones and timeless appeal evoke the grandeur of centuries-old oak, making it a statement piece in any setting.
Antique Pine : Lighter than oak yet equally inviting, this finish radiates a cozy warmth that invites you to linger. The natural wax enhances the wood's natural grain, creating a rustic elegance that pairs beautifully with both traditional and contemporary décor.
Antique Elm: A sophisticated blend of brown and grey hues, sealed with a durable water-based lacquer for longevity. This finish not only adds depth and character but also offers practicality, ensuring your furniture remains as stunning as the day it was crafted.
Limed Oak: Delicately light and airy, with a soft white and grey tone that gives the wood a subtle weathered appearance. The liming process enhances the natural grain patterns, creating a finish that exudes coastal charm and modern elegance.
As a general rule of thumb, the weight limit is 15kg per floating bracket.
To hang floating shelves, please follow our guide.
1. Choose the location on your wall that you would like your shelf to be, and mark the centre point with a pencil.
2. Measure the distance between the holes in the back of the shelf, divide this by 2, and then mark this measurement either side of your centre point mark on the wall.
3. Using a spirit level, join all 3 marks on the wall.
4. Check there is no wiring near to where you will be drilling.
5. Mark the spots for your drill holes.
6. Drill the holes into the wall with a masonry bit and install the wall plug.
7. Screw the floating rods into the wall, ensure they are tight and level.
8. Place the shelf holes onto the rods, and push the shelf against the wall.
